In a battle against the sea during Monday’s massive swell on the KZN coast, one of the big inkosi ‘s of Zululand Surfing, Freddie Le Roux, broke his leg after an unfortunate blow from his board.
Not willing to miss out on a chance to catch the wave of a lifetime, Freddie paddled out while swells were causing havoc with ships leaving the Richards Bay harbour. As surfers do.
After losing control on a backhand floater, Fred’s board smashed him in the shins, snapping his tibia and fibula cleanly. He was then rushed to hospital following the accident, with an operation to help repair the damaged leg (and in order to get Fred back into the lineup as quickly as possible) scheduled for last night.
Zag Spy has been holding thumbs that it all went well, and that it won’t be long before Freddie is back in the lineup and leading the Zululand charge towards surfing stoke.
