Volcano Erupts in North Sumatra, Flights Grounded and Villagers Flee

The eruption of Mount Sinabung in Northern Sumatra on Sunday night has forced more than 6000 villagers to flee their homes, and flights to and from the island were grounded as thick ash blanketed the skies.

There has also been reports that a crew of Durban surfers, who were amongst the usual throng of waveriders that regularly visit the island in search of perfect waves, were left stranded until the situation cleared up.
