Along with skateboarding, baseball/softball, sport climbing and karate, surfing has been recommended for inclusion in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

“Surfing embodies a cool, playful lifestyle that would add a completely new element to the programme,” said International Surfing Association president, Fernando Aguerre, thus “helping the Games reach new fans through live action and stunning broadcast opportunities.”
Ground has already been broken on a $25 million Wavegarden project in the port city of Kobe, Japan. So whether the final decision – to be made next August – will be to include surfing in the Olympics or not, the playing field will be ready.
Red Bull Unleashed at Surf Snowdonia was a great showcase of wavepool surfing.
Red Bull recently hosted a successful ‘Unleashed’ event at Surf Snowdonia in Dalgorrog, Wales, which shows that the Wavegarden technology is a viable option to host surfing tournaments.
