Proposed new port = trouble for Bluff waves?

A proposed new port for Durban may threaten waves on the Bluff. Officials say a new dug out port is needed to cope with storage and shipping demands and have earmarked Reunion, just south of the Bluff as the possible location. It has been billed as the biggest development ever for Durban should it go through. Besides raising questions of how it will affect the marine environment, the Zag Spy is especially nervous of what it could mean for the waves on the Bluff. A conceptual view of the proposed port shows a large L-shaped breakwater extending into the ocean directly in line with the predominate SW swell direction that kicks waves like Cave Rock – a mere 6 kilometers away – into gear.
