Kowie surfers argue where to dump

Port Alfred surfers are up in arms over dredging the Kowie rivermouth and where to dump the sand. Some are in favour of the sand being pumped into the wave zone in the hope that it will improve wave quality, which locals claim has been poor over the past couple years, while others have come out vehemently against this idea. Currently the sand is being dumped in a dune area just north of the rivermouth, which is now being contested as environmentally unlawful. The situation has escalated and divided the local surfing community.
