How Not To Behave On a Surf Trip

What’s not acceptable at your local spot is most definitely not going to fly when you’re at someone else’s. A group of three surfers holidaying in the Maldives were arrested after beating up a local surf guide, who had asked them to respect the other surfers and follow surf etiquette.

Rights and lefts peel perfectly around Thanburudhoo island.

The incident took place at Thanburudhoo, a quality public surf spot near the capital of Male’, which often has a crowd due to the exclusivity of some of the other waves surrounding resorts in the area.

The three surf tourists took offence to the surf guide’s advice and proceeded to attack him. The incident was later reported to K.Himmafushi Police, who arrested the attackers, and now locals are demanding they be prosecuted to establish justice.

[Update] Cape Town surfer, Warwick Jones was in the Maldives enjoying his trip at the time of the incident, and informed us of the following:

I was in the water when it happened. Both guys were black stamped and not allowed back. They were blocked from going to Bali as well. Show respect when you’re a guest in another country. Go surf to relax not get wound up. Peace.
