He almost spends more time in the ocean than he does on land – which means that Umhlanga shredder, Chris Leppan, often comes across marine life in distress.
Last year he tried valiantly to save a baby dolphin that had beached itself at his home break, and recently he came across this Loggerhead turtle tangled in the shark nets.
“While spearfishing we came across this Loggerhead turtle stuck in the shark nets. It was my privilege to cut her free.” posted Chris on Facebook.
Shark nets are an effective safety measure against shark attacks, but sadly dolphins, turtles and other marine animals often get tangled and die.
