Aussie shaping legend Al Byrne dies following scooter accident in Bali

Australian surfboard shaping legend Allan Byrne, 64, has passed away following a motorcycle accident last Friday in Bali, which left him with a broken arm and fractured skull.

Al shaped surfboards for (among a massive list of others) 1983 & ’84 World Champ Tom Carroll, as well as current world tour surfer Owen Wright, and was in Bali to compete in the annual Rip Curl Padang Cup.

Al lapsed in to a coma while in hospital to receive treatment for his injuries, and passed away yesterday.
