In an announcement yesterday, the ASP revealed that electronic giants Samsung will be the title sponsor for next year’s Dream Tour. The 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour is what it will officially be called from henceforth.
“From the beginning, our goal has been to elevate the platform of this tremendous sport through top-of-class media and sponsor partnerships,” said ASP CEO, Paul Speaker. “Samsung is a global leader in technology, opening new possibilities for people everywhere, an ideal partner for professional surfing. Samsung will help us deliver a world-class experience for our athletes and fans.
“Samsung” – that’s a word you’re going to be hearing a lot of in 2014 while watching Jordy, Kelly, JJF and co. shred some gnarly waves. Well, as long as the webcast sings it could be great having some tech boffs helping beam the broadcast worldwide.
Joining in the webcast chorus will be the official commentary team, which the ASP also announced this week. There’s a good mix of experienced ex-pros, former journalists and smooth-talking cats to call the action for 2014.
The core commentary team will be Pat Parnell, Joe Turpel, Ross Williams and Martin Potter – who have been in the commentary game for years. They will be supported by Peter Mel, Rosy Hodge, Todd Kline, Strider Wasilewski and Ronnie Blakey, while other regional experts will be thrown in as wildcards for each event.
