The International Surfing Association (ISA) has announced that the 2016 INS ISA World Surfing Games will be taking place in the beaut of a beach town – Jacó, Costa Rica. The Games will take place next month between 6-14 August, bringing the competition back to the country for the first time since the successful 2009 edition in nearby Playa Hermosa…
There were 132 surfers representing 27 countries at last year’s Games and this year, the six power members who will be sailing the Mzansi flag will be: Michael February (Kommetjie), Dylan Lightfoot (J-Bay), Matthew Mc Gillivray (J-Bay), Shane Sykes (Salt Rock, KZN), Tanika Hoffman (Hout Bay) and Faye Zoetmulder (Cape St Francis).
With the decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to include Surfing on the Sports Programme for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games; this could potentially lead the 2016 ISA World Surfing Games to be the first major World Championship to take place with Surfing as an Olympic sport.
Viva that!
