OUTREACH PROJECT TO FORM PART OF 2016 TIGER’S MILK WINTER CLASSIC

The Tiger’s Milk Winter classic scheduled for surfers corner in Muizenberg corner will not only showcase the skills of many of South Africa’s top longboarders, surfers and stand up paddlers on June 17, 18 & 19 but will also support a Surfing South Africa outreach initiative.

This Outreach project, which will be coordinated by Danielle Johnson of the JSA, will be held at Surfers Corner from 9am to 1pm on Sunday June 19th and will involve about 60 young surfers from eight community based outreach programmes that use surfing to change the lives of marginalised youth.

Although the Tiger’s Milk Outreach programme is geared towards giving surfers from disadvantaged communities the opportunity to participate in a team focused surfing contest, the main objective of the initiative is enjoyment. Using the unique Tag Team format which sees groups of five boys and girls surfing together as a team, organisers ensure that every participant feels plays a role in the project.

Although the aim of the day’s activities is fun, there is a competitive element attached to the programme which results in surfers in the four teams that reach the finals being awarded medals.

Spending time in the surf and sun is energy sapping but thanks to Tiger’s Milk all of the participants will be able to refuel with good meal and plenty of refreshments from the time they arrive until they leave.

While the Outreach programme is taking place the semi-finalists in the eleven divisions that make up 2016 Tiger’s Milk Winter Classic will be competing for places in their respective finals and a share of the R55 000 prize money on offer. Over 140 entries have been received for this popular event and organisers will have their work cut out for them over the three days of competition as they work through the 60 or so heats.

ABOUT TIGER’S MILK RESTAURANT & BAR

Located in the heart of the Cape Town Surf scene, Tiger’s Milk brings both a heighted sense of excitement and delicious food to Surfers Corner in Muizenberg. Serving generous portions of all your favourite ‘Dude foods’ with a panoramic view of the bay is a hard combination to beat. It wasn’t long before this popular restaurant opened its 2nd store successfully in Long Street, and its 3rd store opening its doors to Century City in May of this year. It is through Tiger’s Milk’s love for surf that has led to them hosting the Tiger’s Milk Classic Surf competition in 2015 and again this year. Their aim for sponsoring this competition is simple; to promote surfing as a sport in South Africa and provide accessibility to emerging surfers. Through the expansion of the brand, Tiger’s Milk has held on to the ethos that their customers have fallen in love with: mouth-watering ‘Dude Food’ enjoyed in a festive environment.
