If you’re in Cape Town this week, here’s something rad to pencil into your diary. On Friday 14 November, African Soul Surfer will be hosting an Art/Music/Film community night in Muizenberg, while on Saturday, 15 November you can head down to the 2nd annual Kommetjie Board Swap and live music gig.
Chris Brehem’s art will be on display on Friday evening at African Soul Surfer.
Both events are for a good cause, with proceeds from African Soul Surfer’s art exhibition and movie night going towards fixing up the 9 Miles Project’s clubhouse in Strandfontein, while the Kommetjie Board Swap’s proceeds will be going towards helping big wave charger, Mike Schlebach get to Mavericks.
The art exhibition on Friday night will feature work by talented Scarborough local, Chris Brehem, who featured in our Artist’s Corner in 2012. The timeless classic, Crystal Voyager will be screened along with Modern Collective. Then there will be live music by the West Coast Wolves following that from 9:00pm. Spaces are limited and they’re expecting a good turnout, so RSVP to info@africansoulsurfer.co.za if you’re keen to pull in.
The Kommetjie Board Swap meanwhile, will feature live music by Sean Koch, Richard Kidman, Galen Hossack and a ‘special guest appearance’. But the main focus of the day will be for surfers to gather and buy/swap/sell their boards. Who knows, your magic board could belong to someone else right now. The Board Swap also has a R25 cover charge, and as mentioned all proceeds will be going towards getting Mike Schlebach to Mavericks. It’s all about #community.
