Wright Side of Wrong and The Africa Project shine at XDance Film Festival

Cape Town filmmaker Jason Hearn and Durban-based ripper Warwick Wright were among the winners and special mentions at this week’s XDance Film Festival – dubbed ‘the Academy Awards of Action Sports’.

Both the Africa Project and The Wright Side of Wrong enjoyed successful premieres across the country earlier this year and now the films are starting to make waves on the international scene as well.

Jason’s film ‘The Africa Project’ – which documents “the beauty, rich culture, lifestyle, surfers, people, incredible waves and potential of the African coastline” – received nominations in the Best Cinematography and Best Editing categories.

“Unfortunately I did not win, but to be nominated against the other finalists, with their huge production budgets and top-end Red cameras is a huge feat for my film and I’m really stoked!” said Jason on hearing the news..

Meanwhile Wok, who’s the star of ‘The Wright Side of Wrong’ – described as ‘a journey with Warwick Wright behind the scenes and in your face, where we meet his friends from across the globe and document his life on the road’, was pleased when he heard the news that his film (produced, shot and directed by Peter Hamblin) had not only been nominated in three categories (Best Editing, Best Short Film and Best Director), but had taken top honours in both Best Editing and Best Short Film.

“Wright Side of Wrong just won Best Short Film and Best Editing at X-Dance, the biggest Xtreme film awards in the world – Now the f*&k what???? Booooommmmm!” – was all Wok could muster when he broke the news on Facebook.

If you didn’t get a chance to watch either of these films when they premiered in SA, they are both available for purchase and can be bought by contacting the filmmakers below:
