Thursday 12 June 2014 – More than R75 000 in prizes will be given away and raffled at the launch party for WaveJet South Africa to be held at the Bluebird Garage in Muizenberg and attended by legendary former ASP World No. 3 ranked surfer Cory Lopez (USA) on Saturday 21 June.
The huge range of prizes include a full 7ft Evo WaveJet system (as ridden by World Big Wave World Champion Grant ‘Twiggy’ Baker and valued at R50 000) along with wetsuits, sunglasses, skateboards, surf apparel, energy drinks, surf shop vouchers, VoiP telephone systems, vintage wine, surfboard fins and leashes.
The party features live music by Crimson and Cape Town’s hottest DJ, Dean Fuel, and runs from 6pm to midnight. The prizes will be given away either in lucky draws determined by your entry ticket number or via raffles run at the event.
Tickets for the party are limited to 600 and can be purchased online at https://wavejet.nutickets.co.za/launch. General entrance is R100 while VIP treatment with separate entrance, free energy drinks and craft beer on tap and other perks is available at R150. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Surfers’ Circle Walk of Fame project.
The 7 ft Evo WaveJet system is one of the lucky draw prizes and features the revolutionary personal water propulsion system for surfboards of all sizes. Built by Frankie Oberholzer in Durban, it includes a WaveJet Power Pod, a Blank Pod for non-powered use, a Seatooth®-enabled Wrist Controller and a Charging Station.
Xcel and O’Neill have donated 4/3 wetsuits and also up for grabs are Vonzipper sunglasses, Rock Star Energy drinks, FCS leashes and fins, Island Tribe hampers, a R1 000 voucher from Corner Surf Shop, apparel and SUP lessons from Xpressions on the Beach, Sector 9 long skateboards, shift*eight VoiP phone systems and a jereboam of Chocolate Block wine from Boekenhoutskloof.
Cory Lopez, renowned for his fearless charging in big hollow waves and a three-time X-Games Gold Medallist, jets into Cape Town on the morning of the party and will be speaking of his experiences in Hawaii and other famed big wave spots, doing signings and meeting and mingling with party-goers.

WaveJet SA will host an open day at Surf Shack at Muizenberg Corner on Sunday 22 June where members of the public are invited to try out the WaveJet board of their choice in the surf at no cost. Lopez will be in attendance between 12 noon and 3pm for signings.
