The Heart 104.9FM Spring Dip event was a great success despite the weather. Heart 104.9FM DJ’s and local celebrities welcomed Spring in their swimsuits at the surfer’s corner, Muizenberg in aid of water safety.
The 2012 Heart 104.9FM Spring Dip, took place early morning on Saturday 1 September, traditionally known as the first official day of Spring. Members of the public were invited to join by participating in the event, or by coming down to the beachfront to be a part of the action and support those taking part.
The Spring Dip concept was initiated by Heart 104.9FM. Along with beneficiary, Lifesaving Western Province, a non-profit organization that oversees all surf lifesaving activities in the greater Cape Town area, Heart 104.9FM aimed to promote water safety by educating the public about the rules of beach use.
Local celebrities that pledged their awareness for water safety include, Siv Ngesi (Comedian/Actor), Benedikt Sebastian (Singer/Actor), Sekoati Tsubane (7de laan, Kabelo), Claire Phillips (Singer) and Lucy Tops, Keeno – Lee, Lloyd Jansen & Chad Saaiman from Black Ties.
Together with co-sponsor Fresh Stop at Caltex, the radio station aimed to create awareness for water safety and draw attention to the fact that for every shark attack in South Africa, there are over 3000 incidents of drowning.
Heart 104.9FM broadcasted live from the venue during the Top 30 outside broadcast with Paul Playdon between 9am – 12pm. Fresh Stop provided refreshments for the participants.
