After recently starting his own surf backpackers in Mozambique, Jono Venter got to work by keeping the beaches just down from their spot squeaky clean. By documenting his efforts, Jono gains entry into our Tuffy Beach Clean-Up competition, which puts him in the running to win a brand new shred stick compliments of Firewire and Share The Stoke Foundation.

“Myself (Saffa Surf Guides) together with my partner Grant of Project 1977 Films and Photography recently established Surf ‘n Dreams surf house/backpackers in Ponta Do Ouro. We host local and foreign travellers and get everyone, including some of the locals, involved in a once-a-month clean up campaign. We believe that we can make a positive impact by providing educational tools about re-usable waste, demonstrating the value that this brings to tourism as well as the oceanic conservancy.”
“We’ve been involved in different beach clean-up campaigns and joint ventures for years now, creating awareness in this important matter. We passionately believe that keeping your local environment tidy is the beginning of so many fundamental values that will shape communities and ultimately lives. It all starts with you, and by being the change you want to see you serve as an example which can help change the mindset of others and get them involved. Littering does not create jobs, it create a mess! Come alive Africa! May the most passionate cleaner win!” – Jono Venter
A clean beach is a happy beach!
The local “2M” beer is no doubt a treat for any legal aged tourist visiting Ponta, but the cans belong in the bin not on the beach.
Leaving nothing but footprints and taking only memories is what it’s all about.
