Although it’s not the Long Beach that dozens of frothers flock to for waves over the weekend in Cape Town, Simons Town’s Long Beach is still home to plenty of marine life such as the local penguins and, according to our latest beach cleaner, is also one of the best sites around for beginner scuba divers. Carmen Brown, geared up to the helm in full scuba kit, took some time to clear the trash there over the weekend. By documenting her efforts, Carmen gains entry into our Tuffy Beach Clean-Up competition, which puts her in the running to win a brand new shred stick compliments of Firewire and Share The Stoke Foundation.

“Although there are no breaks on this beach, it is still an awesome recreational dive site and a popular training spot for new dive students. It is situated right next to the train station in Simonstown and very close to the SA Navy dive school. It’s a popular beach for local residents as well as for tourists. Fishermen dock there boats on the beach and relax there almost everyday, so you can only imagine how much trash gets scattered. It’s such a shame since this is one of the most beautiful dive sites in the area and us divers are having to clean up everytime we come here for a dive/swim/snorkel or even training on the beach.”
“But no worries my fellow environment caretakers – I will keep on cleaning and taking care of our beautiful planet! Every Tuffy bag makes a difference.” – Carmen Brown
