There were plenty of stoked faces at Umhlanga’s Main Beach for the second event of Wave Wizards’ Summer Surf Series.
Josh Smit racked up the points in the Men’s Open division.
Club surfing is alive and well in Umhlanga Rocks, with an excellent turnout for both events hosted by Wave Wizards to celebrate their 30th anniversary. And what’s not to love about club surfing, as friends and family gather at their home break for a bit of competitive fun?
Under 17 SA Champ, Teal Hogg ripped in the final of the Women’s Open division.

PERFECT UMHLANGA DAY FOR WAVE WIZARDS SURFERS
Dan Redman smashed his way to victory at Event 2 of Wave Wizards’ Summer Series.
Sunday 9th November saw surfers of all ages take to the water at Umhlanga’s Main Beach for the Wave Wizards Surf Club Event. This was the second competition of a three part series that ends with the Lizzard Summer Surf Event, which kicks off the Annual Umhlanga Summer Festival 2014.
Perfect weather and highly contestable waves were the order of the day. Starting off with slightly messy 2-3 ft waves, which improved to 3-4 ft with the Umhlanga bowl offering some fun lefts.
Masters competitor, Mike Frew got involved by helping the novices catch some bowls.
Club Chairman and Hurricane Brand Manager Jestyn Viljoen was thrilled with the outcome “Our club is all about encouraging the really small kids to experience competitions for the first time. We have surfers as young as 6 years-old taking part and their dads also surfing in the Masters divisions. Today was a perfect day for all the surfers and their families”.
Bevan Willis grabbed a deserved victory in the Under 18 Boys division.
