Tiger’s Milk Winter Classic

After the success of the inaugural Tiger’s Milk Classic at Surfers Corner in Muizenberg last year, the 2016 Tiger’s Milk Winter Classic will not only be even bigger and better this year but will also have an international flavour added to the mix.

Tiger’s Milk have upgraded the Men’s and Women’s Longboarding Divisions to World Surfing League (WSL) speciality status – making it the first ever WSL speciality longboard surf contest to take place in Mzansi. In addition, an Over 40 Longboard division has been introduced for the more ‘mature’ competitive longboarders (a.k.a all the ballies still shredding!)

As was the case in 2015, the Tigers Milk Winter Classic will not only cater for longboarders but will also include Surfing South Africa 3A PST rated Open Men, Open Women, Under 18 Boys and Under 18 Girls surfers, a Stand Up Paddle Waveriding contest for Men and Women, as well as the unique Men’s and Women’s Varsity Divisions for registered student surfers.

With up to 100 local and national surfriders expected to take part, the Tiger’s Milk Winter Classic is undoubtedly a premier event on the Surfing South Africa contest calendar. In addition, the prize money is also stupidly sweet, with a total of R55 000 on offer across the board in this multidiscipline surf event. Online entries for all the divisions have just opened on www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za and will close once each division is full. So check sharp! You can also make your way down for the Tiger’s Milk community outreach project taking place at Surfers Corner from 9am – 1pm on Sunday, June 19th. The project will involve about 60 young surfers from eight community based outreach programmes that use surfing to change the lives of marginalised youth. More HERE.

Tiger’s Milk 2015 commentators

Because we all know surfing goes well with chow here’s a little info on the Tiger’s Milk Restaurant & Bar – where feeding your belly is as important as feeding the stoke!

Tiger’s Milk Restaurant & Bar

Tiger’s Milk is located in the salty heart of the Cape Town Surf scene, bringing good vibes and delicious chow to Surfers Corner in Muizenberg. Serving fat portions of all your favourite ‘Dude foods’ with a panoramic view of the bay; it’s no wonder this popular restaurant soon opened its second branch successfully in Long Street, and has a third opening in Century City in May this year.

Tiger’s Milk’s love for surfing led to them hosting the Tiger’s Milk Classic Surf competition in 2015 and they’re back on board again this year with the drive to promote surfing as a sport in South Africa and provide accessibility to the scene for emerging surfers. Big up to that!

The 2016 Tiger’s Milk Winter Classic is presented by Surfing South Africa. Surfing South Africa is the governing body for the sport in South Africa and is a member of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and the International Surfing Association (ISA).
