Saffas Advance at 6-Star Burton Toyota Classic In Australia

Advancing to the Round of 96 at the 6-Star Burton Toyota Pro in Newcastle, Australia, were Durban’s Slade Prestwich and David Van Zyl, as well as J-Bay local, Dylan Lightfoot.

Michael February was unfortunately eliminated by Hawaiian Torrey Meister and Soli Bailey (AUS) in a closely fought Heat 9 of the Round of 144, in which the Kommetjie local needed just 0.31 more on one of his scoring rides to advance in the onshore conditions.

J-Bay’s Dylan Lightfoot took out the win in Heat 5 with a committed performance.

Dylan Lightfoot was up first for the SA contingent, and he put his bad start to the season at last week’s Hurley Australian Open of Surfing behind him with a solid win over Australian hotshots, Ryan Callinan and Monty Tait, as well as Hawaiian, Joshua Moniz, in Heat 5.

Slade Prestwich was up next in Heat 8, and he outscored Brazil’s Marco Fernandez and Yago Dora, as well as Peruvian, Cristobal De Col, to take the win and advance.

Last up for the Saffas in the Round of 144 was David van Zyl, who advanced from Heat 22 in second place behind Australian, Garret Parkes, while eliminating Hawaii’s Dylan Goodale, and Australian, Taylor Clark.

Dylan, David and Slade will now join fellow KZN shredders, Beyrick De Vries and Dale Staples, who are seeded directly into the Round of 96.

Slade and Dale will match-up in Heat 8 against Hawaii’s Gavin Gillette, and Australian, Dion Atkinson.

The 6-Star Hunter Ports Womens Classic is yet to kick off at the Newcastle Surfest. Faye Zoetmulder will be up first in Womens Round of 72, while Bianca Buitendag and Sarah Baum are seeded directly into the Round of 48.
