PRESS RELEASE
RVCA South Africa are proud to announce the 2015 installment of the RVCA Rolling Retro Surf Event. A fun event that takes place every year, this year’s event promises to be yet another mellow summer day on the beach. Herewith the fast facts for this event:
WHAT – The 2015 version of the RVCA Rolling Retro #rvcarollingretro surf event is set to return to Llandudno, and it promises to be another chilled and cruisy day on the beach. The idea for this popular retro event was germinated by Robby McDonald from Vudu Surf, along with Kai Linder and Andrew ‘Roosta’ Lange. Retro boards, supplied by VUDU Surf – www.facebook.com/VuduSurf – will be available for all competitors, and the criteria is simply for the boards to be ridden with the suitable style that they deserve.
WHERE – The event will be set up around the Lifesaving Club at Llandudno Beach. Remember that there are no ATM facilities available down on the beach, so if you want to take advantage of the bar facilities or the food for sale, then you’re going to have to bring your own coin with you. It also tends to get pretty warm down at the Lifesaving Club, so spectators and contestants are advised to bring down plenty of sun protection.
WHEN – Sunday 22 February is the celebrated date, and it’s going to be a BIG day. Registration opens at 9am, the heats kick off at 10am, and the Pro Heat is scheduled for 4pm. Get down early, as the parking can get pretty full up. Should the conditions prove totally out of control, there is a backup day of 29 February.
WHY – This event is all about having fun. A totally relaxed environment and friendly people, some live bands and good sounds, and some smooth surfing on boards from the past. The entry for the event is R100, and this includes an event vest and the use of one of the Retro Collectible boards if required.
WHO – With 120 slots open for the main surf event, and 40 slots in the bodysurfing and bodyboarding final, there are going to be a whole lot of surfers in attendance. Anyone who is anyone in the Cape Town surf scene will be there, as such an event attracts the ballies as well as the lighties. Some surfers who have impressed in the past are the likes of Michael Grendon, who has won the Best Surfer award three times, Roosta, who will be missed this year as he is overseas, and Jordy Smith, who professes to love the event.
The event hashtag is #rvcarollingretro
