MOVEMBER OFF THE LIP RETRO SURF DAY SET FOR BEACH BUMS
Surfers of all ages will be joining at Beach Bums on the 14th of November to take part in the annual Off The Lip Movember Surf Jam.
Saturday 14th of November will see the annual Movember Off The Lip Surf Jam going down at Tongaat beach in front of the Beach Bums restaurant on the KZN North Coast. This event will see 72 surfers participating in a fun retro surf competition with the hopes of creating awareness and raising funds for the Movember Foundation. Surfers are encouraged to sport their well-groomed moustaches, dress up in seventies surf attire and use old-school surfboards from the era.
This event, which is hosted by Quiksilver and the Movember Foundation, will see 72 surfers competing in six-man heats with traditional beach starts in practice. Something unique to the 2015 edition of the event will be a ladies “Mo Sista’s” division as well as the “Legends” over 50 division. Various fun awards such as “Vert Alert”, “Spin To Win”, “Wave Waster” and “Best Dressed Mo In Character” will be handed out to surfers and spectators alike. Various single and twin fin surfboards from the seventies era will be on hand for surfers to test drive and old school rock ’n roll surf tunes will be the order of the day. The action gets underway at 10.00am with the finals expected to be held at 3.00pm.
All proceeds raised on the day through the compulsory R100 participation fee will be donated to the Movember Foundation which in turn funds various programs surrounding men’s prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity. All surfers, families, friends and members of the public are welcome to come down to the beach to join in the fun and support a good cause. Quiksilver is the official apparel sponsor to Movember South Africa and the Quiksilver crew are looking forward to their third year of supporting the organization.
