The predicted swell has arrived and Heat 1 is about to get underway at the Mavericks Big Wave Invitational.
Kelly Slater was scheduled to paddle out in Heat 1, but has confirmed that he will not be at the event, so his berth has been given to first alternate Tyler Fox. Andy Marr and Frank Solomon were amongst the alternates, but sadly missed out on a spot in the main event.
The Saffa crew still have past winners Chris Bertish and Grant ‘Twiggy’ Baker to support, though, so it’s going to be one heck of a show as the world’s best big wave surfers go head-to-head with mother nature and their peers.
