M-Feb On Form at Martinique Surf Pro

Mikey February has blasted his way to the semi-finals of the QS3000-rated Martinique Surf Pro, advancing through four rounds of competition in fun waves at Basse Pointe, Martinique, in the French West Indies.

The eye of the tiger; M-Feb is focussed on winning the Martinique Surf Pro.

To make it this far in competition requires some excellent scores, and Mikey has already locked-in a Perfect 10, a 9.23, and an 8.83 to win three of his four heats. The Kommetjie local finished second to Miguel Tudela (PER) in Heat 1 of Round 5, however, and he’ll be facing the Peruvian again in semi final Heat 1.

Unlike their previous match-up though, the semi-final will be a two-man showdown – so M-Feb’s entire focus will be on beating one surfer instead of three. And Mikey’s found his rhythm again after an excellent victory over Francisco Bellorin (VEN) in the quarter finals, which he kicked-off with a Perfect 10 on his first wave.

Beyrick De Vries, meanwhile, came close to joining Mikey in the semi-finals. The Umhlanga Rocks local was on fire through Rounds 4 and 5, top-scoring in both and earning an incredible 19.00 heat total to advance through Round 4 – including a Perfect 10 and a 9.00.

In his quarter final match-up with Joshua Moniz (HAW) though, Beyrick couldn’t find his earlier rhythm and was left needing a score as the heat wound down, falling out of the event in equal 5th place.
