Jordy Wins Gold at X-Games

Jordy Smith has claimed a gold medal at the 2013 X-Games with his performance in their ‘Real Surf’ competition. The World Tour ripper was awarded gold when he got the nod as ‘Judges’ Favourite’, and claimed the silver medal in ‘Fans Favourite’ when he placed second to Brazilian Gabriel Medina after the public had voted.

The X-Games Real Surf format saw eight surfers invited to submit their best video parts, which were then judged against their opponent in a man-on-man draw judged with a public vote. When voting for that round would close, the losing surfer would get eliminated, while the winning surfer from that heat would advance to face-off against another previous round winner in the next round.

Jordy beat Maui freesurfer Albee Layer in the first round, before ousting Josh Kerr in the Round 2, which saw him up against Gabriel Medina in the final.
