Jordy and Beyrick stumble, Dylan Falls (US Open)

If you are not going to win your heat, the non-elimination round is probably the best time to do it. Both Jordy Smith and Beyrick De Vries are still in contention at the Vans US Open of Surfing, even though they were unable to win their respective Round 3 Heats and advance directly to Round 5.

Beyrick
Beyrick has been blasting at Huntington. Not enough in Round 3, unfortunately.

They will get a second chance in Round 4, where Beyrick faces a formidable opponent named Josh Kerr (AUS). That should be quite the battle. Beyrick knows that he has to beat the best if he is going to qualify for the Dream Tour, and Josh is one of the best in the draw. Definitely going to tune into the webcast for that one.

Josh
Josh Kerr knows every trick in the book.

Jordy will also be facing a Dream Tour competitor in Round 4. He’ll be up against Aritz Aranburu (ESP), who never backs down without a fight. The tricky Huntington Beach lineup could make it interesting, if you enjoy the more tactical side of competitive surfing. But if there are enough waves, our bets are on Jordy.

Jordy
Jordy finished third in his Round 3 heat.

Following Round 3, the Quarter Finals of the Pro Junior division were contested. In Heat 2, Dylan Lightfoot was unable to back-up a solid 7.10 scoring ride and was eliminated from the event to finish 9th overall. You know he’d like to have gone on to claim victory, but Dylan will be stoked that he did win some heats at Huntington and gained some experience.

Dylan
Dylan Lightfoot needed one more solid score to advance to the Semi Finals.

Tune in to vansusopenofsurfing.com at around 5:00pm SA time and watch the Vans US Open of Surfing LIVE. Perhaps Beyrick can pull-off an underdog victory. And maybe Jordy will do a backflip.

That would be sick!
