It’s ON! JBU Supertrial Gets Green Light

The 16 invitees plus a crowd of spectators are already making their way down to Jeffreys Bay for the JBU Supertrial Presented by RVCA, as a solid swell and favourable conditions predicted for tomorrow (Thursday, 5 June) has encouraged organisers to give the green light.

Supertubes is expected to be firing.

The first heat will hit the water at 9:00am, after which seven gruelling match-ups will decide who gets the coveted wild card into the J-Bay Open Dream Tour event in July.

That’s a huge incentive for all invitees, and tomorrow’s action (if the swell lives up to expectations) should be one heck of a showdown.

Here are the names of the 16 JBU Supertrial invitees:

Sean Holmes
Shaun Joubert
Greg Emslie
Joshe Faulkner
Dylan Lightfoot
Slade Prestwich
Warren Dean
Mikey February
Remi Peterson
Matt Bromley
Beyrick De Vries
Matt McGillivray
Frankie Oberholzer
Dale Staples
Ryan Payne
Davey Van Zyl

NEWSFLASH! JBU Supertrial Presented By RVCA Will Be Held Tomorrow

Jeffreys Bay, 4 June, 2014 – The organisers of the JBU Supertrial, presented by RVCA have announced that the event will be held tomorrow at Supertubes. The winner of the JBU Supertrial will receive the coveted Wild Card entry into the ASP JBay Open, a World Championship Tour (WCT) event that will be held at Supertubes from 10 – 21 July and forms part of the JBay Winterfest.

“The forecast is looking good for tomorrow, with solid waves being predicted so we will be running the JBU Supertrial starting at 9 am from the boardwalk at the Pepper Street car park,” said Koffie Jacobs, the contest director.

16 of South Africa’s top surfers will be taking part in the Supertrial with the former WCT campaigner Greg Emslie and Supertubes danger man Shaun Holmes in the mix to win the Wild Card.
Jeffreys Bay youngsters Dylan Lightfoot and Remi Petersen will be relying on all their local knowledge to win the Supertrial and surf against the world’s best surfers next month during the JBay Open.

“The JBU Supertrial is not going to be an easy event with all the surfers capable of winning it, but I am determined to do well and hopefully make my town proud by winning the Wild Card,” said Dylan Lightfoot, who has grown up surfing the winding walls of Supertubes.

There will be 7 heats in total during the Supertrial with the winner being crowned by mid-afternoon tomorrow in Jeffreys Bay.

No live streaming (as far as we’ve heard), but there will definitely be cameras down there and we’ll be bringing you the action as it comes in.
