The 24 participating countries are well warmed up and ready to contest the 2013 ISA World Surfing Games at Santa Catalina, Panama.
The contest kicks off with the traditional team march past and sand pouring ceremony, before competition in the water gets underway.
The entire nine-day contest is being webcast live via www.isawsg.com where you can watch the action unfold.
South Africa boasts a young team, with an average age of just 22, but plenty of experience including the likes of WQS campaigners Shaun Joubert, Mikey February and Davey van Zyl. Goofyfoot trio Davey Brand, Tanika Hoffman and Faye Zoetmulder make up the rest of the strong SA team.
The Springboks will be looking to take the example shown by our silver medal-winning SA Masters team at last month’s ISA World Masters Games, and go one better by claiming Gold.
One thing’s for certain, contestants sure got the best possible warm-up at Santa Catalina ahead of the event, when the perfect right-hand reefbreak cooked up overhead peelers leading into today’s competition. Just like this:
Catch the action live around 5:00pm South African time.
