JBU SUPERTRIAL PRESENTED BY RVCA SET TO RUN THIS THURSDAY
JBay – The contest organisers of the 2015 edition of the JBU Supertrial Presented By RVCA are all set to go on Thursday 4 June 2015. The swell forecast looks solid, the winds look good and it is all systems go.
“We have been monitoring the swell charts since the waiting period started, and it looks at this stage that Thursday is a good day to run the event,” said JBU’s Koffie Jacobs. “Should there be a change in conditions that were to make Thursday uncontestable, then we still have a back-up day in Friday.”
First prize for the JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA is a wildcard slot into the World Surf League Championship Tour’s JBay Open. This surfer will receive a minimum prize of US$9,000 (R110,500). The JBay Open is the anchor event of the JBay Winterfest.
Invited surfer Benji Brand from Cape Town has had to pull out of the event due to travel commitments, and first alternate Shane Thorne is now in the event.
“I’m super stoked to be in the event,” said an excited Shane, busy packing for the drive from Cape Town. “I heard that Benji might be going to Mexico, but I had to wait until it was confirmed. It looks like it’s going to be big and challenging, but it’s the same for everyone. I’m feeling strong. I’ve been training hard and surfing all the waves around Kommetjie, so I’m ready for the event.”
Competitors are asked to gather at the Pepper Street carpark on Thursday morning at 9:00am.

The JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA precedes the JBay Open WSL Championship Tour event, which takes place during the JBay Winterfest.
The JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA is supported by Arbor, Firewire, Stance, Nixon, Monster Energy South Africa, Zigzag Magazine and El Jimador Tequila.
