Gabriel Medina has won the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast with back-to-back high scores in the final seven and a half minutes of the final against Joel Parkinson, who had commanded the heat from the second minute after starting with a 9.00pt ride.
The first goofyfoot to win at Snapper since Michael Lowe in 2004 (remember that dude!), Gabriel was all over the warping walls on the final day. So was Joel, but after starting the final with a handful of solid rides, he appeared to take his foot off the gas (very much unlike Parko), which was all the young Brazilian needed to get his foot in the door.
Gabriel, smashing his way to victory.
Boom, boom! Parko was left needing a score he struggled to find in the closing moments, and Gabriel Medina now heads to the second event of the 2014 Dream Tour as the world’s number 1.
