Future Legends Coaching Series Event 3 Coming Up

Durban To Host Third Future Legends Coaching Series Event This Weekend

1
New Pier – The third event in the Future Legends Coaching Series – the coaching and training contest series organized by South African Surfing Legends – will take place at Durban on Saturday 19 March. This will conclude the highly successful coaching series, and will allow the SASL to assess all the surfer’s progress and tenacity over the series.

The Future Legends Coaching Series event is an intensive day’s coaching, including competition techniques, surf correction on skateboards, heat preparation, and wave score breakdowns amongst many other implementations.

The coaching is directed by the South African Surf Legends coaching team of Barry Campbell, Spider Murphy, Paul Canning, Simon Nicholson, Chris Knutsen, Heather Clark, Jason Ribbink and Peter Lawson, all under the guidance of Bruce Jackson.

The division winners of the three–part coaching series will be announced after this event, and will all be invited to participate in a training course at the High Performance Surfing Academy.
“The High Performance Surfing Academy will be the backbone of our efforts to get the juniors back onto the podiums world-wide,” said the HPSA’s Jason Ribbink. “We are going to guide and to steer, to train, and work on each surfer’s strengths and weaknesses. We know that this is a long process, but it has now begun, and we must expect progress.”

On top of this, the winner of the U16 Boys Division will receive a slot into the invite-only JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA. The JBU Supertrial is the most important and prestigious event in the country, and this U16 winner will be the first name announced into the field for the 2016 event. Paddling out into what will undoubtedly be perfect Supertubes with only three other surfers is an unrivaled privilege, and the cut-throat competition that is standard for this event will provide this surfer a fast introduction into the serious side of competitive surfing.

“We’re stoked to invite the winner from the Future Legends event into the JBU Supertrial,” said event organizer Koffie Jacobs. “Our event is always exciting, and Supertubes is the sort of wave that is renowned for unearthing new talents. I also think that it’s very positive to be working together with South African Surfing Legends going forward.”

South African Surfing Legends is supported by South African Rugby Legends, Richmark, Firewire, Red Bull, Avis and Maverick Printing, as well as Core Medical and Wellness Centre.
