Entries are now open for the first event of the Billabong Junior Series 2015, which is set to take place at Magna Tubes in Jeffreys Bay between 13-17 July. There’s a host of international entrants included in this year’s lineup and if last year’s event is anything to go by, you can expect some fierce competition and non-stop competitive action from the best groms in the business.

The event is the longest running junior series in the world, having already hosted 51 individual events which have helped boost the future of SA surfing since its inception in 1997.
Kom local, York Van Jaarsveldt was a standout during last year’s event held at Seals.
There are seven divisions ranging from U12 – U20 which will see the country’s top up-and-comers battle it out for the prize money, as well as the WSL Pro Junior Rated points which are on offer for the U20 divisions.

Entries Open For The First Event In The Billabong Junior Series Presented By BOS
Jeffreys Bay – The entries are open for the first contest in the 2015 Billabong Junior Series presented by BOS, and surfers from across the globe have started entering. For this event the surfers are allowed to enter two divisions, with most of them taking advantage of this opportunity.
This Billabong Junior Series Presented By BOS event forms part of the JBay Winterfest – www.jbaywinterfest.com – and has a waiting period from 13 – 17 July. Contest orgnisers need only three days to run the event to completion, and with the waiting period at the same time as the World Surf League’s JBay Open Championship Tour event, there will undoubtedly be good waves for the tournament.
The Billabong Women’s surf team have just returned from a High Performance training camp in East London, where they underwent a gruelling but fun training week with Greg Emslie and Tasha Mentasti in preparation for the Billabong Junior Series 2015.
Billabong team rider Crystal Hulett, was glowing in her reports of the camp. “I learned ways on how to improve not only my surfing, but competing and living a healthy lifestyle too.” said Crystal. “I can now set my goals for the year to help me progress in the future.”

The Billabong Junior Series presented by BOS event also has a number of international entries in the mix, with a crew of overseas Billabong Junior surfers entered into the contest. Ethan Ewing (Australia), Griffin Colapinto (USA), Seth Moniz (Hawai), Shaun Manners (Australia), Eithan Osborne (USA), and Liam O’Brien from Australia. These surfers are all in South Africa for a Billabong Bloodlines project, and have all entered into the event.

This tournament will see the best junior surfers in the country gunning for the points and prize money available. There are both PST (Pro Surf Tour) and World Surf League (WSL) Pro Junior rated divisions. The U12 Boys is a 2A PST rated division, while the U14 Boys, U14 Girls, U16 Boys and U16 Girls divisions are all 3A PST rated. The U20 Boys and the U20 Girls divisions are both WSL 1000 Pro Junior rated. The JBay Winterfest is set to take place from 8 – 19 July, and will comprise the Billabong Junior Series presented by BOS surfing contest, the JBay Open WSL Championship Tour surfing event, a celebrity cross-over event, skate events, extreme trail running, mountain biking, fishing, music, kite festival, open water swim events and much more. The Billabong Junior Series presented by BOS is sanctioned by Surfing South Africa. Surfing South Africa is a member of the South African Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and is recognised by the Dept. Of Sport and Recreation as the national governing body for surfing.
