Windy but perfect Restaurants is where action took place on Day 2 of the Fiji Women’s Pro, and a series of excellent scores were registered. A number of these were awarded to Bianca Buitendag, who ripped through two heats to earn a spot in the quarter finals. On her way to a match-up with 5-time world champ, Stephanie Gilmore, the Vic Bay local averaged a 16,60 heat total.
Bianca Buitendag was ripping on Day 2 of the Fiji Women’s Pro.
In the first heat of the day, Steph defeated Bianca by the narrowest of margins (just 0,03 points) to grab her quarter final spot. The experienced Australian will know that the result could have gone either way, and will be expecting another tough match-up.
Bianca had to surf again in Round 4 against Hawaiian, Alessa Quizon. It was a battle of the goofyfoots on one of the world’s best lefts, which Bianca won with a combined heat total of 16.9 – including an 8.50 and an 8.40.
Johanne Defay looks to line-up a perfect barrel at Restaurants.
There were some good barrels on offer at Restaurants, but many were missed by competitors still trying to adjust to the speed of the wave. Those that found the rhythm quickest though, made it clear that high scores are guaranteed if you keep playing the right tune. On her backhand, Laura Enever (AUS) did exactly that to post the day’s highest heat total (18.84).
