Jumping straight to the quarter finals after a commanding performance in Round 3, Bianca Buitendag is on fire at the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro.
Bianca has been dominant at Margaret River.
The waves were difficult on Day 2, but the Southern Cape goofyfoot still managed to carve her way to a 17.50pts heat total on the bumpy rights, leaving opponents Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) and Paige Hareb (NZL) needing a combination of scores to catch her.
Before her heat, Bianca spoke with presenters, Pete Mel and Todd Kline, about her approach to the season and her good form:
Bianca will face Sally Fitzgibbons again in the quarter finals, after the Australian won her Round 4 heat to also advance to the quarter finals. Current world rankings leader, Steph Gilmore (AUS), slipped up in the non-elimination Round 3, but managed to narrowly beat fellow Australian, Dimity Stoyle, in Round 4 to qualify for the quarter finals.
The South African did it the easy way though, and is looking extremely relaxed as she advances closer to a second WCT final in a row.
In the Mens division surfed yesterday, Jordy advanced directly to Round 3 after a solid showing in his opening heat against Raoni Monteiro (BRA) and Sebastian Zietz (HAW). He will learn who he faces in Round 3 only after Round 2 is completed.
Jordy looked in complete control in Round 1.
Travis Logie, meanwhile, couldn’t find the waves he needed to smash his notorious backhand blasts on, finishing third in his heat against Miguel Pupo (BRA) and CJ Hobgood (USA). Travis will face-off with Tahiti’s Michel Bourez in Round 2 Heat 7.
