A Big Day of Epic Battles at Rip Curl Pro

Californian Courtney Conlogue won her first Bells title a few hours ago at the Rip Curl Women’s Pro, edging two-time event winner Sally Fitzgibbons by a tenth-of-a-point in an incredible final showdown that went to the wire, and capped one of the most incredible days of women’s performance surfing ever.

The men’s devision hit the water with the start of Round Five, and Matt Wilkinson came out firing against Julian Wilson and earnt himself a spot in the Quaterfinals and a crack at the bell. Wilko will be stoked, knowing he’s going to be wearing the yellow jersey in his first heat at Margaret River regardless of the outcome at Bells.

Rookie Conner Coffin sent another huge shot over the bow of tour veterans in Round Four by taking the Super Heat match of the morning against Jordy Smith and Mick Fanning. Coffin’s layback gouges and exaggerated rail carves helped him get through to his first trip to the Quarterfinals of the Rip Curl Men’s Pro.
