2016 Kommetjie Boardswop And Surf Festival

The crew in the Kom are a tight knit group of lekker STOKED surfers. Each year they have a get together to jol, trade boards and most importantly – support one of their own in pursuing their ventures. This time around they are getting behind the new Lady Sliders Union as well as big wave charger and all round inspiration, Chris Bertish in his quest to cross the sea on his SUP. A worthy cause and sweet time, read more below!

“Once a year, Kommetjie plays host to a HUGE party for surfers. The objective is simple – “To have fun and make money for a good cause.” The KBS event has a rich legacy of financially helping people to chase their dreams. In the past we’ve got behind Ruth and Max Armstrong, Mike Schlebach, James Lowe and Josh Redman. This year we’re backing our friend Chris Bertish, who will be paddling his way across the whole frikken ATLANTIC OCEAN…….on his SUP!!! There will be bands, beer, food, surf art, karaoke, kids activities, give aways and a bunch of rad surf and skate movies. We’ll also be honouring the role of women in our surfing community by premiering a short movie called – “The Ghost-Ship”. We’ll be doing a Q&A afterwards with the cast, crew, director and star of the movie. For the last 3 years, we’ve been nurturing the culture of swopping boards. Here’s how it works. You bring one or two of your GOOD boards in the hopes that someone else has a board that you like more than your own. Then you swop them !! (Simple) The venue is the same as it has been, the past 3 years, which is the Kommetjie Primary School Hall. 40 bucks gets you in at the door. Party starts at 3pm and ends at 9pm. Spread the word!” –  Dougal Paterson.
