Sunny Side Up – Davey Van Zyl

When Event 2 kicks-off on 31 May in Umdloti, David Van Zyl will be gunning for back-to-back victories in Quiksilver’s Takes One To Know One Series.

His win at Long Beach in March was his first pro event title, and the Durban North local has been putting in the hours back home to ensure he is in top form when his first heat hits the water. ‘Sunny Side Up’ is a look at some of these sessions, filmed & edited by: Matt Van Wieringen

Pretty bummed with this one Zag, way over edited and most likely the worst quality I have seen in along time. Choice of song is horrendous. Surfing is good, waves are good, but nothing was smooth or fit well.

i expected better from Matt to be honest…i guess life is a bit harder for him with a proper camera rather than just letting a gopro do all the work

Davey is a machine. I reckon that if more WQS events were held in quality waves, then Travis, Jordy and Bianca wouldn’t be the only ones representing SA on the Dream Tour.

“if more WQS events were held in quality waves”…unfortunately…they’re not…so instead of the laaities sipping lattes at Gateway or opting for a cardio day when the east is howling and its 4ft,they should be punting instead of grunting…I’m tired of trapping down when the east is chooning “take that”and seeing no one out everywhere in Durban…

If it makes you tired, then don’t stress about it. But Davey and all the guys properly giving the WQS a go (Beyrick, Dale, M-Feb etc) are fully committed as far as I’ve seen. It’s just a matter of the WQS being a bit harder than you probably think it is, Lowpro. Shakas bru, stay cool.

Excellent job Matt. This guy just gets better and better. Pity there are so many pro – [insert any designation here] always voicing their opinions. JFC, it’s the surf industry! Not the big stuff. Why not be thankful that someone is actually creating content (which I guess you have an interest in otherwise you won’t be spewing your BS here) and someone prepared to share it, for free brah? I don’t edit. I don’t know Matt. I surf. And enjoy watching it. Get fucked.

The Quality of this clip was really bad, lot of soft shots too..Good surfing tho, but kids gonna have to do some airs to get in the big time.

nothing wrong with the vid,you want pro edit, get a dvd…
nothing can be done about the music, considering its illegal to use someone elses music as a backing track without the labels permission,(if the artist is signed)
lets live with it,just mute it …
