Shafiq Morton in Black and White

Shafiq Morton was a prominent Zag lensman back in the 80s who photographed everything from gnarly rock ledges to secret beach breaks in and around the Cape and beyond. Some of his most iconic work was of legendary Cape surfers like David Stolk and Johnny Paarman. Shafiq has since become a veteran photojournalist, putting himself and his camera in the midst of many conflict zones around the world. He also used to publish the Cape-based surf magazine, Offshore, and now runs his popular photo-journal blog called Surfing Behind The Wall.

Here is a selection of some of Shafiq’s old prints we found while trawling through our archives this morning. All photos and original captions by Shafiq Morton.
