Nazare, Massive – 11/12/2014

The swell peaked at a solid 5.2m at 21 seconds on 11 December at Nazaré in Portugal. These images captured by João Pedro Rocha tell the story.

The notorious big wave spot of Praia do Norte regularly offers surfers brave enough to ride it a shot at some of the biggest waves on the planet, and a 78-foot wave ridden by Garret McNamara at the giant peak in November 2011 still stands as the official Guinness World Record for the largest ever ridden.

“One of the top three days at Praia do Norte since ever,” said fearless local charger, Hugo Vau of the session last Thursday.
