While competitors seemingly stormed ahead with plans for their water parks to be built around the world, Kelly Slater and his team at KS Wave Co. had not yet revealed much about the man-made waves they were producing. Well, that’s because they were waiting until they were happy with the final product before showing the world what they’ve made. And they’re happy now, because it’s a thing of beauty.

Huston we have liftoff…Aloha
This is awesome! Very exciting! Truly amazing! I scheme it’s probably the best thing
that has happened to surfing in the last 50 years, not because it will allow
surfing to progress in leaps and bounds, will be easily accessible to beginners
or that surfing will now be justifiable as a recognized Olympic sport. But for
much more practical reasons.
I for one can’t wait – because now when some competitive kook paddles out we can
legitimately tell him/her to piss off and go ‘practice’ at the nearest wave
pool! Ocean surfers only!
We have a perfect location in Cape Town for one of these. I recon this is incredible but wouldn’t be surprised if there is more size and variation to this concept. Kelly will keep that little detail to himself for a while longer me thinks.
I agree Craig ….he has not worked on this thing for 10 years for that to be the final setup-size and variation.Lessons learnt from the wave garden(now permanently busted) is that it costs MEGA bucks to maintain and fine tune for variation. That is the critical path right there. Something I am sure Kelly has been wrestling with.
