A Good Drowning

“Everyone knows someone who sank and never came back…” A Good Drowning tells the story of Saul, a boy whose shelter was once a cave above the sea and who soon found a home in the ocean.

The short film forms part of a South African surf series together with Chasing the Dragon and Dead Fish Eyes. All of the films tell the story of young teens from the Cape Flats who have been rehabilitated through surfing by the Surf Shack Outreach in Muizenberg. Produced by 7Films, the videos just snagged a Gold and Campaign Craft award at the 2016 Loerie Awards which took place in Durban this past weekend.

From gangsterism, to drugs, homelessness and violence – the films are an important reminder of the raw reality that exists just a few kays away from sandcastles and summer holidays. Revive yourself with the potent power of surfing and check out A Good Drowning below…
