The fifth and final leg of the 2015 Monster Pitstop in association with O’Neill, Vestal, Skullcandy and Neff has kicked-off, and we’ve received our first entry. Dane Staples filmed this sand-churning tube that his brother, Dale Staples, rode in Namibia recently.
Dale clocks in a considerable amount of tube time on this grinding left, which makes it a serious contender for the October leg of the Monster Pitstop. Entries for the October leg close at the end of the month, after which the winner of Leg 5’s prize worth over R10 000* will be announced. This month’s winner will also become the fifth of five ‘Pit of the Year’ finalists – made up of each of the monthly leg winners – where it will be in with a chance at the grand prize worth over R30 000**.
‘Pit of the Year’ finalists so far include; Cape Town’s Granville West, who took out the first leg with a long, dredging tube filmed by Kai Linder; Southern Cape local Adin Jeenes, meanwhile, claimed the win in Leg 2 with a ridiculous below-sea-level barrel he scored in Indonesia – filmed by Jonathan Morales; Leg 3 was another tightly fought barrel battle, but 2013/14 Big Wave World Tour champion Twiggy Baker took top honours with a huge pit at Mexico’s infamous Puerto Escondido filmed by Daniel Balbuena; Leg 4 was won by Casey Grant, with a long and technical tube in the Eastern Cape – filmed by Steven Michelsen.
Adin Jeenes won Leg 2 with this ridiculous Indo tube filmed by Jonathan Morales.
