After much deliberation, six gorgeous finalists have been decided in the search for SA’s sexiest beach babe – one of whom will win the coveted title of Miss Zag, presented by Rip Curl and Reef Brazil.
The finalists were judged on their online portfolios, including the overall activity on their page over the duration of the contest. The six finalists are as follows:
Voting opens today on the Miss Zag website (https://zigzag.co.za/misszagtop6/), where you can now log on and vote for your favourite finalist until this Friday, 25 January. The public vote will then be added to the overall judge’s vote to decide an overall winner from amongst these six finalists.
Along with the coveted title of Miss Zag, the winner will receive a two-year modelling contract from Boss Models, a trip overseas to shoot their portfolio, two custom surfboards from Natural Curve and loads of amazing loot from Rip Curl and Reef Brazil.
A huge thank you to all the contestants who entered. Stay tuned for the overall Miss Zag winner announcement on Monday 28 January.

Congrats to the Top 6! All lovely ladies! Where is Jade Fairbrother and Yolandi Malherbe though?
We weren’t chosen by the judges, even though we had the most photos, most activity and the 2 with the most votes. Each over 3000.
Congrats girls! Go Nina! 🙂
Yeah Austin, a bit odd! Jade and Yolandi are STUNNING. I thought they’d be definitely 1 and 2 pick for sure. Bizarre!
Thank you so much! We would’ve loved to be in the top 6. We worked hard over the last few months, being one of the first girls to enter.
Well done girls, though do agree with Austin! Shame, that’s a shocker by the judges, for those two girls being omitted! They’re right up there as the sexiest bikini babes in competitions and their votes are crazy!
Thank you for the compliment!
Jade not there! WHAT!?
Not cool guys and I voted for Jade all the way and she finished the top votes. Should have least taking THAT into account! What was the point of all of that then? Looks like ZigZag calendar will hit groupon if public votes aren’t counted.
JADE FAIRBROTHER NOT IN THE FINALS? That’s a national outrage….
i guess Jade and Yolande didn’t get in cos they have both done adult modelling which is perhaps the reason.
@James – i hope thats the case cos i don’t imagine Boss models, Rip Curl and Reef going down that road.
Don’t care what you lot say – i don’t want adult models (playboy chicks) in my copy of the Zag or my families copy, betcha the sponsors wouldn’t want it either. I have nothing against the girls doing naked shots if thats what they want to do, but once you’ve done it you’ve set your bar – its just not welcome to me, the other contestants, or the mums and dads like me who’s daughters entered a clean living and fun modelling competition. That island tribe ad and the Kate 1wave wonder booby slip was the limit for me. The top 6 are well chosen now its up to the public vote.
Vote goes for the cute girls actually on the beach ,happy having fun and not bothered getting sand in their cozzies.
The Vampire unhappy bitch pose is so last season doll .
The decision is final the judges chose the girls who they were looking for… as a contestant myself, we were all informed that votes would be considered but not count 100% to the outcome of the comp, there were other areas that were judged too.
I reckon people need to chill, be happy for the top 6 and move on if you didnt make it, you cant win them all… its just how the modelling industry works! and if you are a sport, you will try again next year…
Come on guys, the top 6 are beautiful girls!! you cant please everyone, as everyone has their own tastes!! Everybody will have their own opinion as to who should be in the top 6…
I say Congratz Zigzag… I know you wont dissapoint in crowning the best girl Miss Zag!!
Good Luck Girls!!!
I do agree. It’s up to the judges and the top 6 they chose are all beautiful!
But if votes didn’t count, why get the public to even vote in the first place?
Because it is used as a marketing tool to get the public involved… alot of the times voting systems do not work as people can trick the voting system and add 100s of votes (Not IT minded so dunno how it works, but know it can be done) i think the votes are to keep people active and get a general view of who the public likes… the votes are taken into consideration im sure, but do not count in totality…
i thought you would make it in to the top 6, but we all have our own opinion and do not know how the judging was conducted.. therefore i do think it is uneccessary to make such a big fuss, whats done is done… lets not spoil it for the girls who did make it… P.S you have accomplished so much and judging by the comments you have lots of fans… so move on and continue with what you are doing as you seem to be doing well in the industry 🙂
One of the Dads: That’s irrelevant what any girls have done in the past in terms of a new competition. If all contestants and girls are in a comp as the SEXIEST bikini babes in SA, when wearing a bikini, then they are the best overall candidates including most votes (all taken into account). At the moment, if they (the two mentioned) have been excluded because once posing topless in an adult magazine, that means the rest are by default really the best left after the two omitted – so not truly the sexiest in SA. No one would really care if in the past they posed topless. Does Boss Models not do implied nudity? Yes they do. Sponsors don’t and shouldn’t care about that. Farcical really. Your ‘mums and dad’s’ seeing them in ZigZag would be in a bikini and all/any girls in swimwear. 95% of readers, not knowing anyone’s history, just like I don’t know any of the above six girls’ history. That would be like complaining that all the above models once were naked as babies. Irrelevant.
Congrats to the top 6 girls! Now time for public votes!
Ag, do understand what most of you are saying. Taking a look at the huge votes for Jade and Yolande, and taking a look at their amazing pics – appears they were hard done by!
Oh well, always next year. Not sure if judges gave any comments for their choices and reasons for leaving those two out. One would think if they had most votes and they have bikini looks (which anyone can see), that it would be a bit odd to not include them in top 6. I for one, don’t care what any girl did prior, whether she was a drug addict, stripper or bully – competition is based on looks and votes and ‘the sexiest bikini babe in SA’.
Well said Steve!
Zigzag, of course there are PLENTY of beautiful woman in SA and I’m sure there are loads that can make the top 6. So how to separate them fairly? Two ways. First on their looks/photo portfolio and PUBLIC vote. Public vote, requires effort, activity and promotion – in a big way. Shows EFFORT and how badly the girl wants it. It isn’t easy. So IF Jade Fairbrother and Yolandi Malherbe had the most votes by miles AND they have the portfolio to boot (can anyone here say that the chosen top 6 had a much better portfolio? Don’t think so – let’s say they’re all the same and good in their own way), then the only separation is activity and votes – which they won by miles. So there is absolutely no justification, besides prejudice/bias (which is an infraction on your terms and conditions of this competition) and in-terms ‘illegal’ – by not sticking to the competition ruling criteria. ‘Judged on your portfolio, activity and votes’!?
Jade Fairbrother and Yolandi Malherbe look like a tranny and a troll respectively. Thanks, ZigZAg for posting naturally beautiful girls who aren’t fifty years old.
Clearly trolling yourself. Quite odd you can say they look like that, yet public vote suggested (by being 6 x higher in the votes to nearest competitor) that they were top choices. With your stupid logic, that would suggest the rest are then even worse! Moron
Popularity has never been a solid indication of quality. Have you seen these women in real life? Trash.
yes, i saw and met Yolandi. She’s gorgeous.
I have met both girls before and they are down to earth and fun. They are really beautiful – even more so than what the pictures portray.
Your comments are laughable, you’re probably a jealous chick your comments are so lame!
Also, you’d probably have a more reliable opinion if you weren’t already/trying to shtoik one/both of them.
They get so much attention because their career is built on posing naked for the pervs of this world!
They both chose their category of modeling and that is being in the nude industry, and the world has tricked us all into thinking that sex sells, but at the end of the day, anyone that has has a daughter will not want their daughter to see someone like Yolandi or Jade because their baby girl will look at them and think “oh wow, how did she get to where she is in her career, I want to be like that!” and if they look it up and see, oh they managed to get their foot in the door by posing for Playboy, let me go do that!
I would love to see the day that Yolandi or Jade has a daughter, and their little girl starts wanting to be ‘just like mommy’!
your name say it all siff
Regardless of what each girl’s modeling experiences were, they all entered this competition to be the next Miss Zag. The judges claim to have judged on 3 things: Activity, Portfolio and votes (as stated on the Miss Zag site). Both Jade & Yolandi were extremely active. Not just on the Miss Zag page, but also all over social networks, marketing for votes. Because of THAT marketing, many other girls saw it and entered. When Yolandi first entered, she was the 3rd or 4th girl to enter. When she stareted marketing the voting, she also marketed the competition itself and many other girls (and Playmates) entered. She has been there since the start of the competition. And even if they have posed topless before (and so many models do), they used bikini photos for this competition. Yolandi uploaded some very beautiful photos (she had 2 shoots done especially for this competition). Should they have made the top 6, again they would’ve posed in bikinis! They are probably more established models than the rest which is why they had so many votes, but in the end, the public buys the magazine and calendar. If they were in the top 6, sales for that calendar would’ve gone through the ROOF! I don’t think the judges judged as stated they would. Nina was never active and she never interacted with the other contestants (only until she was announced top 6). Nina also had only 99 votes. I think she had an unfair advantage to begin with because she is a Reef model, so obviously Reef (the main sponsor and also judges) would pick her. Sherri was never active and had minimal votes. She’s also brunette, so she doesn’t even look like her portfolio. That’s unprofessional of a model. And I never once saw Kyra do anything. Aisha is gorgeous, but she uploaded very few bikini photos, only normal modeling phots. Maybe the judges wanted a specific look or fresh faces, but then why waste the public’s time with voting? Why should I vote for the top 6 NOW since the votes will probably not count anyway? To me, beach babes are hot girls who can fill up a bikini, and Yolandi do just that! Her portfolio is evident of that!! Even though I think the top 6 are beautiful girls, I just think that Jade and Yolandi deserved to be in that top 6 MORE than any other girl. Even some of Miss Zag’s very own contestants left messages on Yolandi’s profile that they were shocked she didn’t make the top 6. The public love them and their popularity would’ve counted in ZigZag’s favour. Zigzag, we, the public who buy your magazines, are very disappointed that OUR choices weren’t included in the top 6. Don’t ask our vote if it doesn’t count. Yolandi uploaded over 200 photos, wrote 8 blogs and with her ‘likes’ and votes combined, she had the most votes! She was put in months of effort. Are the judges blind to that? Yolandi would’ve made such a great Miss Zag 2012 and even long after the competition is over, she would’ve left big shoes to fill for the following winner. I mean, where’s last year’s winner?
Brilliant and well said. I was unaware of a Reef connection! Overall, highly controversial in anyone’s mind who doesn’t have blinkers on.
Can’t
change rules after the fact. As Esme has said, judging will be based on
photo’s/activity and votes. Nothing else. So to leave out Yolandi and
Jade, is complete BS and farcical, after the effort they put in UNDER
the direction of the judging criteria to make the top 6! It’s fairly
obvious to say, they were used for marketing ZigZag’s competition and
brand (promoting it to tens of thousands); to then be prejudiced
against. There is a massive elephant in the room and no response ever
from the judges or who even the judges were and how many where they or
their comment/reasoning/response on why Jade/Yolandi were left out?
Bottom line, there has been no response, because there is no
justification or logical fair reasoning for omitting them.
Siff, opinions are irrelevant of myself or one or two others. FACT: They dominated with MAJORITY PUBLIC vote by 6 to 7 x more! So ALL their opinions matter lol! Fool.
I am not sure what you guys are all on about with the two girls missing..this isn’t FHM. Zig and their sponsors pick girls with the beach image they would like to promote. Natural, pretty girls. Those two definitely don’t fit the mold. If you are so worried about their level of exposure just google them and you will see all you need and way more. Congrats to the top 6!
Not sure what you mean Sydney. Googled other girls in the Top 6 and they’ve been in FHM, some of them. So what is your point? Are you saying because the two have only had breast augementations, they don’t fit a beach image?
Sports Illustrated SwimSuit edition, which is considered the pinnacle of beach babe/swimwear worldwide – features swimsuit babes which 80-90% of them have had a breast augmentation. Everything else about the two missing is natural and pretty. They are stunning and pretty! Not sure how you can say they don’t fit the mould of pretty. That’s laughable, hence when it went to public, public voted outstandingly in their favour as ‘sexiest bikini babe in SA.’ How can the MAJORITY be wrong?
i think you find quite a few very very naked photos of the 2 girls in question. Yolande and Jade…not the top six.
p.s. sports illustrated is closing down in SA – not much of a pinnicle there then.
BrucedaneSA23 – you a bit of a hectic kid! why don’t you ask those 2 girls out for a drink and enjoy them for yourself …they didn’t win – GET over it
FHM does not even use girls that have been in Playboy because that is too low for them to stoop!
And there is a simple answer to your question Bruce, because the majority is the pervs that they have acquired through their Playboy career!
No Disrespect to the girls nominated here, they are all absolutely
gorgeous. There is no doubt about that, respect to all of you for
getting into the top 6.
But, lets consider the consequences of
not being a viable candidate based on votes aside from previous
modelling appearances, whatever they may be. If votes were not initially
a considered factor in getting into the top 6 then voting for any of
the girls chosen here is really a contradictory request from Zig Zag.
Effectively,
what it comes down to is, Zig Zag has overall control of who the
finalist will be, If votes for the afore mentioned 2 ladies were not
considered, then the votes for the finalist are irrelevant as votes can
be overridden by the powers that be for whatever reason they see fit.
That is not the true spirit of competition.
Equivalently
its the same as Zig Zag saying, you can enter by all means, but if we
dont like that beauty spot on your hip in an otherwise untarnished,
beautiful beach body, we can and will short list you, regardless of the
amount of votes you have.
In any sane persons eyes, Its something ridiculous and should never have been an issue.
The votes are based on what the viewers or readers (majority) want, The (minority) unfortunately have to deal with the outcome.
Take
a look at our international modelling scene, many runway models have
appeared nude for an artistic shoot or in a lingerie shoot, and 3
weeks later they are in your “YOU Magazine” as a model for Nivea
cream…
How does a model diversify her career portfolio if she
is not allowed to model for, or enter for, as many opportunities as she
can?? After all, if a career in modelling is being considered then, this
is this not how they would make their livings??
If this competition was infact exempt from the ladies mentioned in the
first place, then a clause should have been put in place from the word
go, informing all contestants that if you you have ever appeared nude in
any other publication or photo editorial, you may not enter.
It
would have saved the voter the effort of coming and voting as many
times as they did, the effort put in by the ladies to get the voters to
vote, and most of all, all of us sitting here having to debate the
wrongs or rights of our own personal opinions regarding the situation…
I would imagine (and kinda know because my daughter was in the comp) the judging comes down to the votes, the online activity, the casting shots (of those who turned up), RipCurl, Reef, Boss models and lastly Zigzag. That to me that would appear to be a far more structured, comprehensive and fair system that some of the mentions here. The sponsors probably had a big say in it as they are most likely funding the whole thing and will be using the girls for there brand stuff. If the surf brands are looking for their beach girl then it has to be through the eyes of there brands pillars and that would not include an adult modeling career behind them. Boss models probably had a big say in it because they are the experts and are vesting a future into the girls too, certainly that was expressed to my daughter when she went to the casting. This comp feels right to me so i don’t get all this chirp about the other two girls who are granted very beautiful but….sorry didn’t win make the top six probably to do with the aforementioned circumstances. My daughter didn’t make the top six – but she loved the experience and took her chances with great energy. I’m very proud of her.
To close my comments the top 6 are very very beautiful girls and deserve their place, so instead of you lot crying over assumptions, denting this for some of the other girls who tried, why don’t you celebrate a whole Miss Zag website of beautiful girls and very beautiful top 6 and a bit of aloha spirit into the thing.
To one of the dads……..In that case.. chuck your Playboy copy’s away ( with Jade & Yollandi) that you hide under your Zig Zag mags……. The rules should have speculated that beforehand…. the girls would not have entered if that were the case!!!!
Just because you feel the need to perve over naked girls in Playboy and always make sure you get the first mag every month, it does not mean that every man is as deprived as you are!
They get so much attention because their career is built on posing naked for the pervs of this world! And already have received their ‘fame’ and accolades for this.
They both chose their category of modeling and that is being in the nude industry, and the world has tricked us all into thinking that sex is the only thing that sells, but at the end of the day, anyone that has has a daughter will not want them to see someone with the influence like Yolandi or Jade, because their little girl will look at them and think “oh wow, how did she get to where she is in her career, I want to be like that!” and if they look it up and see, oh they managed to get their foot in the door by posing for Playboy, let me go do that!
I would love to see the day that Yolandi or Jade has a daughter, and their little girl starts wanting to be ‘just like mommy’!
Why is Playboy too low? Playboy is far more successful as a brand than FHM. FHM has treated woman terribly. I have loads of friends that have modelled for them and been misled – it’s common knowledge! From what I’ve heard from girls who’ve tried to cast for Playboy, it’s a very professional setup done in good taste. Secondly, as many have mentioned below, it’s irrelevant who did what in the past. The question is who is the sexiest bikini babe in SA and those two should have been by the RULES of the competition, in the top 6. Not saying they would have won at all, but should have been in the top 6 with other best candidates. That’s where the injustice has come in.
The thing is, LilDobbs, it is not a thing of the past – it is their current status!
Sports Illustrated world wide. Don’t take any local version as a benchmark. Everyone knows in Europe and USA the swimwear editions of their sports illustrated are huge.
Again as I mentioned to Blue above and I do agree with what Bruce is saying, its irrelevant what girls have done in the past. Who cares whether they did try drugs in school or drink etc. The question based on the competition, who’s the sexiest bikini babe and judging criteria was laid out and they entered and should have been in the top 6 based on judging criteria.
Well written ‘one of the dads’. I agree what your saying and yes, the brands and sponsors wanted perhaps a new freash look as one of the winners (from top 6). Which is all great. What SHOULD have then happened, was Jade and Yolandi should have been told from the outright, they woulnd’t be ‘looked at’. What happened is Jade and Yolandi did many specific photo shoots, tiresome 4 months of marketing this competition (to which 50% of other girls saw from them and then entered) after they publiziced the competition, stuck to the criteria and lead the comp – to then be overlooked. Just sad for them and obviously congrats to the top 6. Had they just been told in the beginning, there wouldn’t have been an ‘outrage’. They would have said ok, we understand and known not to waste their time.
You couldn’t have said it better! This is how the industry works. You win some, you lose some! It’s not like not making the top 6 has been the worst thing that’s ever happened to me. It was fun taking part, seeing the activity of the girls, getting an opportunity to share our portfolios etc. Kirstie and I started to get to know each other and sent loooong inboxes back and forth. I’m SO happy she made the top 6, just like I told her she would. Even though some are upset that Jade and I didn’t make the top 6, there’s nothing we can do about it, so we should leave it at that and not take the shine away from the top 6 girls!
Also read Werner Daniels post below LostinLove – that’ll help you understand!
FAMOUS celebs/stars/actresses like Lindsay Lohan, Kim Kardashian, Cindy Crawford etc etc, all have done Playboy and they certainly won’t have any issues from their daughters looking down on them after their successful careers and opportunities opened for them. A LOT were famous FIRST via acting etc and then did Playboy to fullfill a dream as a lot of girls (tens of thousands cast to be a monthly playmate which stays as an accolade with you forever). Your very close minded to think Playboy as a brand, is a ‘dirty’ or ugly association. Do you see coca cola tattoos or stickers on cars? Or do you see playboy bunny logo’s, tattoos on people. Bachelorettes? The brand IS HUGE.
Geez… shocked at all this… everyone is carrying on over absolute crap… when you are in a competition of 100 girls all wanting to be SA’s sexiest beach babe… you are always going to have dissapointed girls who did not make it. I was in the Comp, didnt make the top 6… but hey, i am moving on and will try again next year… i am not going to act unprofessional and bad mouth Zigzag and get a bad rep… I for one think the girls who are in the top 6 are natural surfing/beach beauties… thats obviously what the juges were looking for… before the top 6 was announced all of us were sent an e-mail saying just because you dont have the most votes doesnt mean you dont stand a chance… there were lots of other aspects judged… why not just stand tall, accept the fact you didnt make it, put a smile on your face, congratulate the top 6 and uphold a good rep… by the way last years Miss Zag, may not have been very active in the comp either.. but she is a stunning girl!!! and nobody in last years comp caused an uproar like this – its unprofessional….
Yolandi and Jade have accomplished alot in the industry and can be proud of themselves (even if some people dont agree with what they have done) unfortunately you cannot win them all…. you both did great in the comp, i enjoyed your blogs, pics etc… unfortunately you didnt make it but you should both know by now with your experience thats how this industry works…
Just be happy for the top 6, it is an amazing opportunity for them… lets not spoil it!!
Well done Kirstie, good to see a real surfer, beachy, fun loving girl making it to the top 6.
That is exactly what the ZigZag girl should be all about, you are gorgeous!!!!
