RIP Marc Spowart

Spowy and Dale Staples talk surfboards – 2010

The sad news of the passing of renowned surfboard shaper Marc Spowart came as a shock yesterday, adding a dose of sadness to the festive season. Marc’s untimely death sees another of SA’s finest craftsman depart our world, following Errol Hickman’s passing in early November.

A Bluff local and a standout when Cave Rock was doing it’s thing, Marc has left behind a lasting impression on those that knew him.

“RIP Marc Spowart! You shaped me some of my best boards! My thoughts go out to your family…” wrote former team rider Dale Staples.

Spowy’s shapes and sense of humour will be sorely missed by the South African surfing family.

RIP SPOWY

Condolences to the Spowart Family. Excuse the insensitivity but is there is a disclosed cause of death?

RIP Spowy, belated blessings on the paddle out.
      Remember Spowey dropping into 10to12+ bombs at St.Mike’s – ’84 Natal&S
Natal trials – biggest waves I ever paddled out in and saw surfed in my life, at the time -to Spowey – fearless and style – biggest balls out there – making it look easy -but ingrained in my memory -legend – RIP Spowey -dropping Raph, Rox.
