Zag’s Photo of the Year – Kody McGregor Wins

The 2012 ‘Photo of The Year’ goes to Kody McGregor for his superbly captured moment of Donovan Zoetmulder in flight, which graced the cover of Zigzag 35.7.

It was always going to be a tight call, but Kody’s shot cracked the nod among an expert panel of internationally respected editors and photographers, including Peter Taras (Surfing Magazine Photo Editor), Alan Van Gysen (Zigzag Photo Editor), Derek Rielly (Stab Magazine Editor), Grant
Ellis (Surfer Magazine Photo Editor), Chris van Lennep and Will Bendix (Zigzag Editor).

Highly commended mentions go out to Greg Ewing and Anthony Fox for their amazing photographs from the past year. AVG’s aerial perspective of Craig Anderson surfing all-time Skeleton Bay was excluded from the judges vote in light of his position at Zag, and just in case the judges felt sorry for him.

Kody takes home the coveted title of ‘Photo of The Year’ for 2012 along with a large canvas print and a bonus R3000.00 to keep him smiling over Christmas.

The public winner with almost 400 votes goes to Louis Wulff for his photograph of Greg Emslie in a critical position at Deadmans, with a sponger embedded in the lip. Louis wins a larger than life canvas print for his wall at home, which could prove interesting to mount seeing as his home has round walls.

Finally, a big thanks to the photographers, who are all winners in our books: without their creative talents, Zag would be non-existent.
