Wavescape.co.za hosted another excellent surfboard auction this past week, collecting a massive R234,000 for charities such as the NSRI, Shark Spotters and the HIV awareness project Waves for Change.
With 11 talented artists invited to submit their work on the blank surfboard canvases provided, the results were outstanding with Brett Murray’s (creater of the much publicised “The Spear”) work getting the bidders revved up the most and being sold for R42,000.
All boards auctioned were replicas of a John Whitmore original, except one, a Whitmore tribute “family board” that featured a portrait of the ‘Oom’ on one of his original shapes – which got sold for the bargain price of R10,500.
Nice work by the Wavescape team from Cape Town and a valuable boost in funding for the charities which were supported.
