This hooded Cape charger isn’t afraid to put it on the line in intimidating circumstances. Currently a student at UCT, when he’s not doing odd jobs to pay for the snapped boards, you can find him pulling into pits at his local, Llandudno, where he is a lifeguard.

John John is definitely the best but I think Mikey Wright is doing some of the most stylish, hard-charging and critical surfing at the moment.
DAWNIE OR ARVO SESH?
Dawnies are cool and all when you’re up the coast with friends, but growing up in Llands I’ve learned to really like late arvo sessions.
WHICH SPOT DO YOU HAVE TO SURF BEFORE YOU DIE?
There’s this wave in front of my house that only breaks on really big swell and it runs straight into some massive granite boulders. Been watching it my whole life wondering if it’s surfable or not. I reckon it is…
WHEN YOU ARE NOT SURFING, YOU CAN BE FOUND WHERE?
Chilling on the beach, doing lifesaving training, chilling with friends, skating or maybe on campus at UCT.
GREATEST FEAR?
I’m pretty scared of sharks but I try not to think about it too much.
BEST SURFING MEMORY?
Surfing Scar Reef during the swell of the century that hit Indo in June/July. I’d never seen, surfed or got beaten by a wave of that calibre before. It probably changed my life! (laughs)
