Second 2015 Monster Pitstop Winner Is…

Three incredible tubes were pitted against each other in the second leg of the Monster Energy Pitstop in association with O’Neill, Vestal, Skullcandy and Neff, but only one gets to walk away with the prize as last month’s winner after all the votes were cast.

Adin Jeenes scored this tube of a lifetime in Indo recently.

Southern cape charger, Adin Jeenes scooped a solid 72.89% of the total votes* last month for his ridiculous barrel during the recent Indo mega-swell, which saw him disappear deep behind a thick lip and below sea-level for several seconds (6.5 on the official Monster Pitstop tube timer).

“Adin is, like, 20-foot deep at one point and then the wave gets even more hollow,” said Monster Energy’s judge, Joel Gray. “That’s a wave of a lifetime for most. Sick!”

The judge’s had a tough time picking their favourite for this month’s leg. Some were blown away by Twiggy’s control on a big board (9’0” x 21” x 3.5”) inside a huge Mexican tube, while others were equally impressed by how deep, long and technical Adin’s tube was, with Adin just getting the nod over Twig.

Twiggy rode this solid Mexican tube well on a big board.

For his efforts, Adin wins a R5 000 hamper from O’Neill, while Jonathan Morales – who filmed Adin’s incredible tube – scores some epic product from Vestal, Skullcandy and Neff valued at over R5 000**.

Adin’s ride also joins last month’s winning ride by Granville West in the ‘Pit of the Year’ grand final, which will see the five monthly leg winners of this year’s Monster Energy Pitstop face-off in a tube shootout for the massive first prize of over R30 000*** in cash and prizes.

Entries are now also open for Leg 3 of the Monster Energy Pitstop, and Zuluwatu crew member, Lance Morris, has already jumped in guns blazing with a solid entry of his own.

* HOW THE VOTING WORKS:
• The public vote and judging panel’s vote is split 50-50
• This means each of the three judge’s votes count 16.67% of the overall vote (to make up the judges’ 50% of the vote).
• The public vote for each surfer is then worked out as a percentage of the total number of public votes across all contestants and divided by two to work out how much it contributes to the other 50%.
It sounds complicated, but makes sense when you do the sums. So let’s do the maths for the top two rides who were in the running this month:

Adin Jeenes
2x judge’s vote = 33.34%
Total public votes across all the contestants = 304
Granville’s public votes: 241 votes = 79.28% of 304 / 2 = 39.64%
= 72.98% of votes overall

Grant Baker
1x judge’s vote = 16.67%
Total public votes across all the finalists = 304
Matt’s public votes: 11 = 3.62% of 304 / 2 = 1.81%
= 18.48% of votes overall
