Yesterday afternoon Zag received word of a South African surfer, Brett Archibald, who was lost at sea after falling overboard from the charter boat the Nagu Laut, during it’s journey across the Mentawai Strait from Padang to the Mentawai islands.

As news spread of Brett’s disappearance, a fleet of other Mentawai charter boats joined in the search, and after more than 28 hours in the water, Brett was found, exhausted but alive.

“I had sharks swimming past me, I got stung by every jelly fish in the ocean. Seagulls even tried to pick my eyes out, so I have big holes in my nose.” explained Brett of just some of the ordeal.

Shortly after being found by the charter boat Barrenjoey, Chris Binns from Surfing Life Magazine managed to get hold of Brett via satellite phone and listened as Brett recounted his amazing story of survival and stamina.

No mention of his rescuers, typical yarpies. Aussie surfers spent their own money to go out looking for him. “Embracing his rescuers, the South African surfer, Brett Archibald, whose
wife had been told he was dead, said: ”I love you Aussies, I’m never
going to bag you guys ever again.” Bunch of poofter show ponies.
