Hippies Galore as Rolling Retro hits Llandudno this Weekend

The third annual Rolling Retro Surf Day will be taking place this coming weekend, Sunday 17 February, at Llandudno Beach.
(if the weather plays havoc, then it will take place the following Sunday 24 February).

The idea behind Rolling Retro is to basically hang loose, remember our surfing roots and above all have fun – which isn’t hard when you’re surrounded by a beach full of surf fans frothing for a good time.

The theme for this year’s Rolling Retro is ’70s Hippie’ and organiser Kai Linder claims there are massive prizes up for grabs for the best dressed male and female on the day. If you’re unsure of what ’70s Hippie’ is, then think tie-die, floral prints, headbands, kort broek and peace signs.

There’s room for 120 surfers (any age or gender) to take part in the Rolling Retro surfing competition and R100 gains you entry – it is on a first come first serve basis, so get their early if you wish to compete. Rob MacDonald of Vudu Surf will be bringing down his huge collection of Retro boards for everyone to try out, but if you have a vintage gem of your own, then feel free to wax it up and bring it along.

For those less competitive amongst us, there’s still going to be loads of entertainment – especially with Kaptein Kai rockin’ the mic – and best of all, it is free for the whole family. You just need to try find a parking, because it is going to be packed, so be sure to load as many fellow hippies into your car as legally possible.
